How far away is Platform 1 from the Adelaide CBD?
Distance wise, Platform 1 is about 35 kms from the Adelaide CBD. It takes about 20 minutes to get to us from the bottom of the South Eastern Freeway (Glen Osmond Intersection), so add how long it takes you to get to the SE Freeway and add 20 minutes.
What age group is Platform 1 suitable for?
Platform 1 is suitable for a wide range of ages. Children love the train ride, the hands-on railway displays and animals and games. Adults love the history of the property and the relaxed feel knowing the children are entertained.
Groups are very welcome at Platform 1 (see our Groups tab) and we have programmes available for all age groups including school groups, seniors etc.
Can I catch public transport to get to Platform 1?
You can get off a Hills Transit Bus in the main street of Littlehampton and then there is a 1.5km walk to Platform 1. See times and routes at www.linksa.com.au
How long do I need to spend at Platform 1?
You can stay all day if you like, but most people allow at least 1.5-2hrs for a visit.
What is the weather like at Platform 1?
The temperature in the Adelaide Hills is always 2 degrees cooler than the temperature in Adelaide. Therefore in winter, make sure to bring a coat and in summer enjoy the cooler temperatures.
Do we need to book a seat for the train ride?
No, just bear in mind that the train departs on the hour. When you arrive you will be booked onto the next hourly train.
Can the children touch things?
Yes, yes and yes. The railway memorabilia is designed to allow interactive play, the animals will always enjoy a pat and the games are always a favourite.
How far does the train go?
The train goes through the farmyard and out into the open paddock. We have about 1km of train track and the train ride takes about 20 minutes.
Can I take the pram on the train?
No, you will need to nurse your “little one”. We have an area for you to leave your prams while you are on the train ride.
How hard is it to get on the train?
There is a 35cm lip to get into the train. There is a disabled seat on each carriage for easier access. Wheelchairs, prams, walkers cannot go on the train.
Can we stay the night at Platform 1?
Yes, we also have a Bed & Breakfast Liebelt House where you can spend a few nights enjoying the region.
When you stay, you have free admission into Platform 1, help with some of the farm work and walk the paddocks.
